Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
• Enrolled residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as PRPs
• Proficiency in English
• Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine
• DEA Waiver to Prescribe Buprenorphine
• Experience in treating Opioid Use Disorders
• Preferred: ABPN Addiction Board Certification
• Physical ability to perform all activities of the position

Duties

• This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly
• Provide healthcare services to veteran patients at Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment for complex/chronic pain and opioid use disorder
• Refer patients for ancillary services and specialty care within the VA system
• Perform clinical duties such as initial evaluations, developing treatment plans, ordering tests, and documenting in CPRS
• Prescribe medications per formulary, with variance only when clinically indicated
• Serve as treatment and consulting psychiatrist on the Pain Management Clinic Team
• Complete administrative requirements for referrals and transfers as authorized
• Provide psychiatric consultation to other services as needed
• Other duties as assigned
