We're looking for an experienced Estimator to join our growing team at Wagner Roofing. We are an established roofing company based in Hyattsville, MD. For over 100 years, we have been dedicated to preserving iconic buildings, commercial institutions, and residential homes with award-winning craftsmanship across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Job Summary

The Estimator will be responsible for accurately assessing the costs associated with roofing projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for roofing services. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of roofing materials and techniques. You will work closely with potential clients, conduct thorough site surveys, analyze project blueprints, and translate those details into comprehensive proposals.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Estimation:
    1. Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documents to develop comprehensive estimates.
    2. Conduct site visits to gather necessary information and assess project scope, identifying materials required and understanding the complexities of each project.
    3. Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
    4. Utilize estimating software (Edge) and tools to compile accurate and competitive bids.
    5. Maintain detailed records of all estimates, proposals, and bid documents.
    6. Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, permits and other relevant expenses.
    7. Provide customers with detailed quotes and explanation of the scope of work and associated costs.
    8. Negotiating contracts with clients to ensure favorable terms and profitable work.
    9. Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and best practices to ensure accurate and current estimates.
    10. Provide support during the project execution phase, including cost tracking and variance analysis.
    11. May assist with project management tasks such as change order proposals.
  2. Client Relations:
    1. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, addressing their needs and ensuring their satisfaction.
    2. Conduct regular client meetings to gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
  3. Collaboration & Communication:
    1. Collaborate closely with other departments, including operations and finance, to ensure alignment of initiatives with overall business goals.
    2. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure clarity and alignment on project expectations.
    3. Review workload/current backlog with operations to verify our tentative start date.
    4. Conduct full handoff/presentation to the project management department

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimation in the roofing or construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, construction management, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree (preferred).

Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Edge) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
  • Effective communication and negotiation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits.
