A title clerk plays a vital role in processing and managing legal documents related to the transfer of vehicle ownership, particularly within the automotive industry. They ensure the accurate and timely completion of all necessary paperwork to facilitate the legal transfer of a vehicle title from seller to buyer.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Processing Vehicle Titles and Registration: Handle all aspects of vehicle title and registration transactions, including new and used vehicle sales.
  • Verifying Accuracy of Documents: Meticulously review title documents and applications to ensure all information is accurate and complete, verifying funds have been collected and lienholders paid off.
  • Submitting Documentation to Government Agencies: Prepare and submit all required legal transfer work to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or other relevant government agencies.
  • Maintaining Records: Keep detailed and up-to-date records of all title and registration transactions.
  • Communicating with Stakeholders: Serve as a liaison between dealerships, customers, lenders, and government agencies, answering customer inquiries and addressing title-related issues.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Stay informed about state and federal regulations related to motor vehicle titles and registrations and ensure all processes adhere to legal standards.
  • Handling Payments and Deposits: Process fees and taxes related to title transfers and registrations.
  • Managing Inventory Information: Verify and update vehicle inventory details, often including generating reports and tracking stock.
  • Additional Administrative Tasks: Support other administrative functions as needed, such as filing, data entry, and using office software.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a similar role or administrative position is often preferred.
